Relearning The Bean Bag Game

May 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Many people play the bean bag toss in elementary school, in their physical education classes. Then as they grow older they forget about the game. It simply does not occur to them that they can still play the game and that there might be others who want to do the same. They see it as a kid game only, but this is far from the truth. Age does not matter, and anyone can play the bean bag toss – something that a lot of people also call the Cornhole game or the bean bag game. What the game is called depends on what part of the country a person is in, and to some extent it also depends on the size of the board. The traditional size of the tailate toss board is two feet by three feet, but some people also use this board for portability reasons when they play the Cornhole game, which typically has a standard board size of two feet by four feet. No matter what size board a person uses or what name they attach to it, however, playing the bags game can be a lot of fun for all ages.

Since the rules are not difficult to follow and the game is not physically demanding, elderly people, young children, and everyone in between can play the game without difficulty. To play the bean bag toss, a person has only to learn some simple rules. The bags are made of a duck canvas, and they are usually filled with plastic pellets. In the past, they were filled with dried corn or dried beans, but these items tend to degrade over time when they are allowed to spend too much time out in the elements – especially if they get wet. In order to avoid these kinds of problems, the changes that were made were needed. These bags are small and lightweight, and they are tossed toward a board which has a hole in it. This board is set at an angle, and the players stand at a specific distance from the board. They toss the duck canvas bags, and the goal is to get the bean bags to go through the hole to score points.

If that cannot be done, then getting the bags to stay on the board and not fall off also scores points, but not as many. Because the bean bag toss is an easy game with simple rules and no difficult athletics, it is very popular with people of all ages. It is played more often in northern and western parts of the country, but there are pockets of bean bag game players all over the United States. It is simply a matter of finding them. Many tournaments are organized by people who enjoy playing the bean bag game. There can be cash and prizes, or simply the joy of competition. Either way, people have a lot of fun playing the bean bag toss with friends, either in competition or in the backyard at a party or other get-together. A lot of people play it at birthday parties and other events, helping to increase its popularity.
